Christmas is in The Air!
Date: November 19th, 2009
We are in full swing. The first Turkeys have been roasted, delicious stuffing and the favourite family Bread Sauce. Last weekend many calories were gained as Chapel Window Cake or Battenburg Cake (as it is perhaps better known) was perfected. We are also preparing for The Food & Wine Magazine Food Fair at The RDS next week. Here we have a photo of our Mince Meat being stirred ...

Nora Egan’s Inch House Black Pudding
Date: November 9th, 2009
I almost choked on my Muesli on Sunday morning to read of ourselves in Lucinda O'Sullivan's (Sunday Independent) excellent article 'Adapt and get through Stormy Waters'. Happy on this occasion to get the relatively safe mention of being one of Nora Egan's customers for her amazing Black Pudding. I am equally happy to add that O'Connells has been supporting Small Producers since we opened in 1999 ... Bill Casey's Smoked Salmon from Shanagarry, Co Cork and Fingal Ferguson's amazing Bacon, Chorizo and Salamis from Schull Co Cork to name but two. We are proud founding members of Good Food Ireland www.goodfoodireland.ie
Thank you for making Mum’s 70th Birthday so special
Date: November 2nd, 2009
Hi Tom,
I just wanted to let you know how delighted we were with the way things went on Friday night. Everyone had a wonderful time and the food was effusively complimented by all. The room looked magnificent and Eamon Monaghan on the piano really added to a wonderful atmosphere. I must particularly compliment you and your team for taking everything, from last minute cancellations by several of our party to the presence of a table of younger diners, in your stride. We were very well looked after in a charming and good humoured fashion by the whole team and things could not have been better.
Mum was thrilled and that is largely down to you all.
Many thanks once again,
Eleanor
Christmas is Coming
Date: October 20th, 2009
Christmas is coming. We are having great fun here tasting our Sherry Trifle. Ah the memories! It is quite amazing how food smells and flavours can transport us to our childhood. On Sunday, I walked Cullohill 'Mountain' in my native village in Co Laois, collected Blackberries and Hazelnuts. Then back to my Brothers House for 'Cullohill Apple Tart' ... available each day of the year here in O'Connells in Ballsbridge. Email us for the recipe! Click on 'Occasions' on this site for our Christmas Menus.
Old School Dinners
Date: October 20th, 2009
We were reviewed this weekend by Lucinda O'Sullivan in The Sunday Independent. We are delighted she pointed out our uniqueness of which we are proud. Apologies to Lucinda for her Lamb Shank - we like them to be 'falling off the bone' and with a 'healthy bit of fat' - We do it our way. Tom O'Connell
Georgina Campbell’s Ireland Guide’s Just Ask Restaurant of the Month October 2009
Date: October 15th, 2009
“Just Ask!” is a public awareness campaign that aims to encourage consumers when eating out to look for information on where the food (particularly meat) on their plate comes from, and encourages chefs to provide this information on their menus. The programme supports both large and smaller artisan suppliers, encouraging both Irish diners and visitors from abroad to support restaurants that are in turn supporting their suppliers.
O'Connells Ballsbridge is October, 2009's Just Ask Restaurant of the Month.
